Ecclesial Citizenship in a Constitutively Synodal Church

Abstract
Starting from a reflection on conciliar ecclesiology and the model of the Church as the People of God derived from the Second Vatican Council, the notion of “ecclesial citizenship” can help us to deep understanding the condition of the Christian faithful in the context of synodality. The study analyzes how the members of the People of God are called to participate actively in the life and mission of the Church, examining the main elements that configure this “ecclesial citizenship”: a sense of belonging, spiritual growth, active participation, openness and inclusion, dialogue and listening, discernment and decision-making, as well as the exercise of authority and leadership in an evangelical key. In addition, consider contemporary challenges such as clericalism and the role of women, proposing ways towards a fuller and more responsible participation of all the faithful, men and women, in the construction of a synodal and missionary Church.
