Llerena’s Inquisition Tribunal at the End of its Existence (1800-1820)

Abstract
Llerena's Inquisition Tribunal acted for more than three centuries: from its origin at the end of the XV century until the first decades of the 1800s. Its last stage, the less known, is the matter of the present study. Without the strength of its first years, the Tribunal kept fighting against the heresy, mainly manifested as proposal crimes, freemasonry, possession of forbidden books and solicitation. The documental chaos and the arbitrariness marked the end of its operation, despite the best efforts of the Supreme to keep the procedural rigour characteristic of the Holy Office.
