A ex-altação da Santa Cruz para ex-alt(e)ar a fé / The ex-altation of the Cross in order to elevate the faith

Abstract

Ao olhar para a cruz bem alta imediatamente nos vem à memória a história daqueles e daquelas que acompanharam Jesus até ao calvário. A partir daí somos levados com eles e com elas a entrar nas suas reacções e a pensar na (i)lógica de tudo aquilo. A cruz enquanto lógica de Deus perante a acção ilógica da humanidade tem uma história, tem um contexto. Este é um primeiro momento do olhar da cruz, do olhar a cruz. Num segundo momento este olhar transporta-nos para o olhar de Deus, ou seja, para o olhar do próprio Deus sobre nós e para o olhar nosso voltado para Deus marcado pela cruz. Dito de outro modo, na cruz somos olhados e olhamos, somos vistos e vemos, somos identificados e identificamos, entramos no acesso à identidade do amor de Deus. São estes dois momentos que aqui são notados na festa da exaltação da santa cruz.

To think and to look at the cross we are questioned with the logic behind it. Is it a massacre? A pure death? A penalty? A punishment? A fine? A vindication? A suicide? A conviction? Is it logic? This means one has to look over the cross in order to grasp the significant it signifies or points to. This has been made in different directions in the middle of various theological traditions throughout history. The Reform marked a stand point in the evaluation of the cross to Christian faith. In the Lutheran tradition the cross has been lifted up to the core of Christian faith in order to exalt God’s action. God Himself raised the cross. This sign is only acceptable as a token of His love. That’s why Christians show the cross as the utmost high level of God’s love.
