Abstract
The conceptual evolution from scholastic acedia to modern melancholy within the limits of the larger theme concerning Passions of Baroque cannot be considered more or less completely without the concept of sinderesis which is a Christian version of the traditional “cura sui”. In Modern Times this acquires the form of “good sense”, “common sense”, the basic notion for modern culture. We have analyzed from that perspective the terms used by B. Gracian in his “Manual oracle”.
