Abstract
This article tries to make the distinction between what is celibacy, chastity and virginity from the person of Jesus of the Nazareth. All is about distinction which has been refined over the history of Christianity; initially, three terms undifferentiated were used (celibacy, chastity, virginity); only afterwards they gave out the difference of each one of them. ‘Celibacy’ is one of the most basic and essential church canon law for candidates to the priesthood; ‘chastity’ corresponds better to a philosophical view against sexual incontinence; finally, ‘virginity’ appears as a theological-religious value that Jesus of Nazareth proposed to some of his followers through his life and teaching. Virginity is the provision of total consecration, like Christ himself, to serve the Kingdom of God.Downloads
