Abstract
The given essay analyzes the speeches by Socrates and Alcibiades in “Symposium” by Plato. The latter presents what is usually considered as platonic notion of love by giving an account of the conversation that took place with Diotima of Mantinea. In this discussion Eros is considered as a mysterious force that turns lovers´ actions into abstract and intelligible ones. However Alcibiades comes suddenly into the scene and presents a new notion in which love can be shown to a particular individual, who is considered inimitable and unique.
