Abstract
In order to discover the passions and virtues in the age of “El Greco”, this paper focuses on the structure of one of his masterpieces, The burial of the Count of Orgaz. The analysis arrives at the conclusion that it is very close to Confucianism with its idea of “prince”, –君子 jūnzǐ, king’s son–, and that it also includes the modern idea of “individual”. Things being so the age of “El Greco” would be not only “his” age but the age of Confucianism and of individual, i.e., “our” own age as “counts”, “princes” and/ or “individuals”.Downloads
