Abstract

In philosophical theology of the analytic tradition, there is currently an intense de­bate between authors who question the compatibility of the doctrine of divine simplicity with the idea that God creates freely, and those who defend the compatibility between both. The fact that the main arguments in this debate are already present in the tradition of Scholastic philosophy is usually overlooked. This article explains the way in which Francisco Suárez faces the problem, refuting the positions of previous authors on the subject and advancing his own original solution.
